What is an RMT?

RMT stands for Registered Massage Therapist, who is a health care professional that has achieved training and is recognized by the College of Massage Therapist of British Columbia, who are responsible for regulation of RMTs in BC.

What is the definition of massage therapy?

It means the health profession in which a person provides, for the purposes of developing, maintaining, rehabilitating or augmenting physical function, or relieving pain or promoting health, the services of

(a) assessment of soft tissue and joints of the body, and

(b) treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction, injury, pain and disorders of soft tissue and joints of the body by manipulation, mobilization and other manual methods.

Stated in the Health Professional Act [am. B.C. Reg. 58/2015, s. 1.]

Does massage therapy hurt?

At times, certain techniques can feel uncomfortable but they never should be painful in a way that feels hurtful.  If ever its to much pressure during a treatment, you always have the right to say so and can stop the treatment at anytime if you choose or if you do not like a specific technique being used, please inform the therapist and they will gladly change the technique.

Why am I sore the next day after my massage treatment?

Occasionally, you can feel tender on the area that got treated for 24-48 hour period as the muscle responds to the treatment.  If you are tender for longer you should tell this to the therapist during your next treatment.

Sometimes, after treatment you may feel nauseas, possibly flu like symptoms, this is what's called a healing crisis and is a full body response to the massage treatment as the body rids itself of the toxins that got released during treatment.  It may not feel so good at the time but is very good for the body in the long run.

It helps to drink lots of water post treatment which will help the body flush out the toxins that are releasing and rehydrate the body.

What should I wear?

You can wear whatever you like, the therapist will only uncover that area that is to be worked on after receiving verbal consent from you before proceeding with the treatment.

You can choose to leave your clothes on during the treatment or take off whatever you feel comfortable with and please note that you will be covered at all times with the sheets during your treatment.

Will my personal information that is collected with the online booking and at the clinic be kept private?

Most certainly!  The clinic will not ever release any of your information to anyone without a written consent form signed by you authorizing the clinic to so.

Client confidentially is one of most important aspects to the clinic.

What is Direct Billing and what does this do for me?

Direct billing is when the clinic will submit claims on your behalf to Medical Services Plan or your extended medical insurance plan (depending on the insurance provider you are with).

You will only have to pay either the remaining amount of the treatment session or nothing at all if your plan covers the cost completely.

Which means you get to keep your money in your pocket instead of waiting to get it back and not having to do any paper work to get it!

What can I expect by going here for massage therapy?

You can be assured that the therapist will do their best to make you feel safe and comfortable, in order for you to fully benefit from massage therapy.

The therapist will bring to the table a variety of techniques, a class of supreme professionalism and a caring attitude for your therapeutic massage treatment.

Do I need a Doctor's referral?

Yes, if your extended medical insurance requires it.

What should I bring with me?

You should bring in your contact information, care card number and/ or extended medical insurance provider information and/or doctor's referral for filling out the clinic's confidential health history form as the clinic will require for administration  and billing purposes.
